To provide assistance to people in the Central African Republic– food, seeds, tools and shelter supplies – CRS must repair some bridges in order for large trucks to reach the most remote and vulnerable communities.
Following a coup in March 2013, mostly Muslim-led Seleka fighters were involved in a series of brutal attacks, including widespread killing of civilians, burning and looting of homes, and other serious crimes. This prompted the formation of the anti-Balaka militia, catalyzing a vicious cycle of violence.
After two years, CAR continues to face a major humanitarian crisis. Nearly a million people have been displaced from their homes, and 2.7 million people, more than half of the population, are in need of immediate assistance.
